According to the Russian tradition, when people settled on a new place first of all they laid the foundation of a church. And around it, with the bless of God, the towns and cities grew. The Church of St. Nicholas is the spiritual centre of the whole Kremlin in Izmailovo. St. Nicholas was revered as the patron of seamen, merchants and craftsmen. He was believed to protect the Russian fleet which also originates from Izmailovo. As the story goes, Peter the Great had his first lessons in navigation on Serebryano-Vinogradny (“Silver-Grape”) pond near the Kremlin in Izmailovo. The Church was consecrated in 2004 and has a status as a town church under the patronage of the Moscow Stauropegial Male Monastery of St. Daniel. It is the highest wooden church in Russia (46 meters high). During the sermon, it gathers merchants, craftsmen and the guests of the Kremlin in Izmailovo under its roof.

Wedding ceremony can be carried out in the Church of St. Nicholas. From the upper viewing platform the guests can enjoy a beautiful view on the Serebryano-Vinogradny pond, the Silver Island and the ancient Pokrov Cathedral of 17th century. From the platform a newly married couple will be able to let the white pigeons fly out of their hands.

Church services are held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and on important Orthodox holidays.
